For my own, I used an old roller bed from the 60's and my power supply has volts/amps meters on it. A simple laser tach can just lay on the table beside it if I need it. I did one a few years back that had a motor with a wheel and tire on it as a roller, and the leads of the motor were connected to a voltmeter. The faster the motor shaft turns, the higher the reading, using the motor as a DC generator. I hope this gives you ideas, and if you need help just shout out.
