Hillman Imp

Postby VTECFOUR » Sat Mar 18, 2017 3:54 pm

Built a Hillman Imp started from a Retro Racer 44's slot car estate purchase.

Can't do better than begin with a George Turner body resin cast .

Extended the existing wheel flares slightly, front and rear, with fast setting epoxy to accomodate Slot It 14" plastic and BRM Nascar rims. One day, we'll resurrect the U13 Challenge Proxy for under 1.3 litre cars, so I wanted this car to be eligible for the modified class.

Reworked one of Retro Racer's chassis to have adjustable wheelbase.

Sprayed on Tamiya TS-16 Yellow and TS-10 French Blue to replicate George Turner's rendition.

The minilite wheel inserts were created by Ron, our club's 3D printing wizard.

Gave it a run on Luf's Big Targa track and it felt planted with decent speed. Pleased with the results.

Another little car for the collection.
