I have been watching magracing quite from the beginning because it is a very interesting concept. As long as one does´nt need the speed of wing cars...
I like the more scale speed, for example.
But -
The only remarkable progress over the time are the new printed chassis that allow using parts and bodies from 32nd scale slotcars.
A look into the magracing shop is not really encouraging.
I think the system suffers from its position just between RC and slotracing.
The steering is like in digital slotcars only two positions.
The speed control is stop - full. I would prefer to be able to control the speed a bit more, for example when following a car. In videos one can see how the follower sometimes crashes into the leader. Perhaps he is a bit faster, but he cannot reduce speed and lie in wait for passing.
The only argument for magracing towards RC in my opinion is that you can even mount open cars on the chassis, like CanAm, LMP and similar Spyders. I haven´t found any real scale RC cars of these types yet.
Passing depends on the lane change spots just as with digital slotcar racing.
Building a track is a bit less laborious, but not so much.
Once, when there were only thee vacuformed CanAm bodies available, I had asked why the huge selection of BETTA´s 32nd scale vacuformed styrene - or who prefers, Lexan - bodies is not advised for being used.
I mean these -
but didn´t get any usable reply.
I am still interested in the system. Actually, having switched from 32nd scale, I am doing my hobby in 43rd scale scratchbuilding and am one of the "lone wolves" there, but I would not mind switching once more and becoming another lone wolf in mag racing...
Although it is an attractive alternative I cannot really define what still prevents me from doing it...
