Honda S800 Racer

For 1/32nd Scale Models

Honda S800 Racer

Postby VTECFOUR » Tue Dec 20, 2016 3:14 pm

Waiting for wheels to arrive for my 1/24 Sunbeam Tiger build, so in the meantime, dropping down in scale to a build a little Honda S800. Picked up the 1/24 Tamiya Honda S800 Racing model kit last spring but was on the fence to slot convert. Had the 1/32 Arii Honda S600 kit hanging around, so why not build that into a slot racer version and complete the bigger model kit too?

Remembered Dr Diff's S600 entry from the SLOP proxy years ago and it was a neat little thing. Also, inspired by Bob M's #15 entry in the U13 Challenge proxy from a few years ago.

So, we're on.

I bought 3 of those ( Porsche) ARII kits and was looking at one of these Hondas. I wasn't sure of a prototype racer for it though, and held off buying one. I am really looking forward to what you come up with.

Cheers

Cannabalized another build using the Devised Designs super slimline motor pod and front mini carrier. Had to trim both to get the short 62mm Honda wheelbase. Rims/tires are SCX Fiat Abarth 1000 (front) and Ranch Design custom made/Paul Gage (rear).

Mocked the body on and stance is close to what I'm looking for.

Need to tuck the wheels in so wheel well grinding is due and probably some tire trueing.

So far, so good.

Chassis and body are together with a single post mounts, front and rear.

Mocked the hard top and windscreen in place. Final fit's going to be fiddly.

Thought I'd make you wince, Chris. Chassis done out of expediency.

Image

Just modified the Devised Designs parts and attached a perimeter brass pan with side pans to be added. Got a whack of .055 piano wire the other day and my Parts Express buy list ready, so true scratch built chassis are my next slot learning adventure.

In the meantime, did some body work. Cut off the front and rear valences from the kit chassis and attached to the body. Removed the bumper molding for a racer look.

Getting there.

Paint detailed the rear wheel inserts in silver and gold and gave the SCX Fiat Abarth front wheels the same treatment.

Image

Epoxied the windscreen and hard top together while mock fitted on the body. The one piece will ease installation and removal.

Works for me with or without the hardtop.

Just need an interior tray and driver figure but that's it. Enough handling of fiddly parts!
