In order to make it easier for our end user customers, following many requests, we have decided to replace old codes with better ones for our popular wheels.

The old product code, to make transition easier, will still be printed on the product packaging.

Here is how it works:

We have taken the three important dimensions (diameter, width, hub thickness), and used them to create the code.

For example, our wheel WH1110-Al is 17.3mm diameter, 8.2mm width, 1.5mm hub: it becomes W17308215A

W for wheel diameter in mm 17.3 --> 173 width in mm 8.2mm --082 hub thickness in mm 1.5mm -- 15

A for aluminium

Another example:

old code PA17-Pl (15.8*8.2*2.5mm)

new code W15808225P

W = wheel
158 = diameter
082 = width
25 = hub width
P = plastic

Thus, starting from today the codes for the following will be replaced as explained above.
We believe that this change will make things easier for everyone - even if we understand that there will be some initial perplexity.
To minimize this, the stickers on the bags will carry BOTH old and new codes.

Effective January 2017 all Slot.it wheels will be coded according to this rule.

Thanks for the info, but oh dear what confusion this will cause!

For example, how will the new numbering distinguish between the PA19-Als, the PA19-Alf and the PA19-Alh? There's no logic in the new numbering system to identify whether the wheel has double shoulders instead of a solid center,and whether the double shoulder wheels have the drilled channel or not.

Or are they only going to change the few wheel numbers that were listed?

Hopefully we will get more info from Maurizio in due course.

Funny. Because many have done nothing but complain about the "old way" and wanted a new, more accurate system. Almost identical to how PG lists his tires :)

I am sure they will come up with a good plan :)

That description made my brain hurt.
The sizing is great if one has a bare wheel in hand. If the wheel is on the car, I'd rather use the diameter of the rim that I can see. That would be D-2x rib thickness.

Well it's a logical reason and I understand what they're getting at but it's such a long series of numbers... I just don't know about this idea of replacing the whole product description with this.

This works for me: I like more information and this is logical. I have on more than one occasion been unsure if I was ordering the correct wheel: this removes any uncertainlty.

Great but scratch builders need the visible diameter and the ridge width. OK Slot.it uses Euro "std" 5mm ridge but... F1 are 7-7.5mm!

I am sure we will muddle through. Best advice? Everyone buy some digital calipers. Then even the PG method will make sense.

Thanks Christian - I missed that on the drawing, I see it now.

Personally, I have never been a fan of intelligent numbering systems, it is way too easy to paint yourself into a corner, as Slot.it have shown with now three different schemes for wheels, and at least two for tires so far. No intelligence in the number does require more standardization of the description of the item of course, but that's usually easier to adapt to changing circumstances.

Perhaps it's why SCC, PG, and most other makers make very easy to follow tire selection tools. :whistle: Maybe not for every slot car ever made, but certainly for our modern aluminum choices. Not to mention recent plastics.

The advanced builder/tuner have calipers. If not, then time to invest. Under $30.00 and you can be unstoppable.
