I'm a died in the wool 1/32 scale oval racer, we have a club here in southeast wisconsin with a series of tracks that are models in themselves. I think your mods are out of site, any pics of the tracks you run on?

Thank you for all for the comments.
Racerrick I have no tracks around here to run on. Use to have one in the basement but
it got torn down many moons ago but I still like to build and fiddle with the cars and
see how far I can go with building them and trying new things.

Got a new build working. Started with a Datsun 510 body.
Image
Narrowed it, set the roof back some and shortened the back deck.
Image
So far this is what we have
Image
Kinda looks like a Chevy Nova in some ways. Need to clean up the chassis some and
start on a hood for it next.

All for now

Kevin - that looks great sofar. I agree, it looks like the '66/67 Nova if I look at it just right.

Those look amazing Kevin! you really captured the essence of North East Modified Dirt Modifieds ("Jalopies" to our mid-western friends  )
Some questions, how do you bend the paper clip roll cages and bumpers so prescisely, are all your exhaust headers brass tube (some look like RRR resins), What body filler do you use to make the hood scoops and lastly what do you use to cut and section the bodies with ?

Chet

Chet in answer to your questions
To make the bumpers and cages all I use are these
Image
The pliers are the flat nose kind without any grooves in them. I just bend them by eye and
trim them with a pair of cutters and grind them flat or whatever I need using a dremel
with a cut off wheel on it. No jigs or anything fancy like that.

The only headers that were made of tubing where the ones on the gold coach.
All the others are resin cast made by a guy who goes by the name Partspig.

All the hoods, hood scoops are made from sheet plastic. All the pieces for them
are cut and glued together. Any seams are filled with real thin ca glue and sanded.
Very little putty is used except to fill any defects in the seams after some
primer is applied. Right now I'm using the green squadron putty because I have it
but you can use automotive spot putty also.
Just an example, All these are separate pieces on the hood.
Image

As far as sectioning the bodies, I just see how much I need to take out, run tape on each
side of the cut and make the cuts with an X-acto saw. After cutting I just glue them back
together and hope for the best. the roof cuts and deck cuts if needed are done
freehand by eye. I try sometime to sand the seams before the glue totally dry
and use the dust to fill the seam, again very little putty is used for filler.

Hope this answers your questions
and thanks for asking.
I have no secrets and will share any information
about this I can.

Got a hood built, not finished but enough to see how it will
look. Found a set of injectors that will work.
Need to sand everything up some more and put some
primer on it to see how it looks.

Body work is done, seams are gone with only
minor filler.

Still needs wet sanded but I'll leave that for
later. On to other things.

All for now

Bumper construction has begun.

This configuration is a second attempt because the first
one failed miserably and looked like it had already been wrecked.
As it's starting to look on the car

Not finished yet still more to add, but looks much better.

Front and rear bumpers are done

Also added a fuel cell to the back

The cell is attached to the gear plate and fits between the
uprights of the chassis.

The beginnings of a cage
Image
Image
Start with the u bend so it fits in the body and clears the driver which is the hardest,
the rest is cut and fit, just like the bumpers but takes longer.
