COLORING LANE PROBLEMS

Postby gonegonzo » Fri Jan 03, 2014 5:58 pm

I'm coloring the lanes on my 4 lane TOMY track and am having a problem maybe someone knows how to fix .

I'm using Testor's paint sticks and letting them follow the slot , coloring both edges of the slot .

I chose the white one to start with and it look outstanding and covered well . I then tried red and it wouldn't cover hardly at all . Blue was the same . Yellow , I haven't tried yet .

Has anyone here experienced this happening ?

Are there other paint sticks that work better ?

Thank you in advance .

Well Gonzo, that's the problem you'll get using alot of paints when trying to paint over Black plastic....the only reason you lucked out with White, is that the pigment is usually Titanium Oxide which covers very well.
I wish I had some useful advice, put I haven't color coded my lanes with paint, I only used small colored stickers in the corners/turns.

Hi Gonzo,

I just colored my lanes with paint sticks from Jo Anns craft stores. Mine came out really nice. They are Sharpie brand oil based paint pens with medium tips. I went around dragging them in the slot two times around and they are very brilliant in color. I used yellow, white, red and green. My kids and I have raced on the lanes many times now with great results and no paint removal.

Hope this helps!

Thx Wayne . I'll try the Sharpies .

Thx Dave . I tried a test piece like you suggested but it didn't work any better . I had a test piece already painted white hoping that would act as a primer .

I ran into the same problem, but after priming each slot with a coat of white anf then the desired color, everything worked well.

Hi Gonzo!

I had no problem with the oil based sharpie paint markers.

Very easy and marked the slots well. I didn't need to do two coats but did any way.

They are holding up nicely with all the racing the kids and I have done so far.

Just get the paint flowing out of the markers really well first then have at it.

Easy peasy......

Hope this helps,
