Infinitely adjustable magnet chassis

Jim Miller, who posts here as HWPSlotCars, has recently added a magnet chassis to his Shapeways '3D printing' store.

This version has what I dubbed Infinitely adjustable magnets (IAM) as the magnets can be moved up and down in the chassis with an allen key.

Jim and I have been working on this chassis for a couple of years, following on from an idea I had in 1993, and executed on two prototypes that never went anywhere.

Eagle racing also has a chassis that has IAM, made one at a time and featuring a cool carbon fibre chassis :)

Maybe IAM's time has finally come?

100_2702.JPGI plan on building and using this chassis for the Ford GT I make. It will be perfect for that body. the fact that I can adjust the magnet height from the rails will give it optimal traction on any track these cars run on

Here is an earlier chassis of mine with IAM on it, heavily based on the Tomy Turbo.





It was designed for me by a guy whose name I have forgotten who traded as slotcarheroes, and mostly built 1/32nd stuff. I still have some of the chassis in kit form, but I would need a jig and some serious soldering skills to build one up.

It was meant more as a means to show off IAM in the flesh. I sent the chassis shown here to Autoworld, who sort of used the concept in the Super III chassis, which was being worked on by them at that time.
