Saturday night at Iceman Raceway!

Postby TuscoTodd » Sun Dec 17, 2017 4:19 pm

:auto-checkeredflag:
It was a great evening of food, fun and laughs last night running on Slot Therapist's "Iceman Raceway" road course!

Image

The first class of the evening is a class we refer to as "Friday Night Cars" - it is a local area class that is designed around minimal cost and maximum fun! It utilizes a Johnny Lightning / AutoWorld Thunderjet chassis (or Ultra G with the button magnet removed), an RT-HO brand brass weighted front end and silicon rear tires. (either on factory rims or aftermarket double flange rims) The weighted front end keeps the the front end planted and the lack of traction magnets keeps things "sporty"!

Our racers and their cars were:

Our host - Slot Therapist and his flamed Nova:

Steve Reed and his red '57 Chevy:

Hangtime and his black Corvette Grand Sport:

Russell May and his green and black Dodge Challenger:

And yours truly running a blue and white Corvette Grand Sport:

There was a lot of great door to door action as some of the pictures above show! With a nice tight technical track like this, there was also plenty of opportunity to step over the line while trying to keep the other guys in your rear view mirror!

When the checkered flag flew - it came down to sections to decide positions even with five racers!

Definitely a fun class of cars to run!

The next class to hit the track were the stock Aurora T-jets!
For this class we had a theme this race - everyone had to run a "Hauler" body (pickup, van, station wagon, etc) - the higher center of gravity and skinny tires of the "stock" class made for some pretty entertaining racing!

The drivers and their cars were:

Our host Slot Therapist piloted his yellow GMC pickup:

Hangtime ran a Willys panel truck:

Russel May had his green Dodge parts chaser:

Steve Reed broke out his orange "Killer" Chevy:

And I rolled with a '55 Chevy Suburban:

And in an effort to leave it "all on the track" - here is how my 'burb slid to a stop after the checkered flag flew!

Image

The "haulers" were a riot to run! There was a fair share of "hey look - two wheels!" as drivers tried to push these top heavy units through the twisties with a lot of good ol' "rubbin' is racin'" going on!

When the checkered flag fell, the finish order fell as follows:

Thanks Harry! Happy to share pics of the fun! The guys here have been having a great time with the "less serious" home track racing - definitely good times! :D

While Hangtime was hooked up like nobodie's business and was able to leave the rest of the field in the dust - it was pretty much a dog fight from there! :D
When the checkered flag fell, the finishing order dropped as:

Definitely a great night! Lots of good times and laughs - just what the doctor ordered!

Rusty - will be happy to!
The front ends come from RT-HO.com and can be found here:
RT-HO front end

We utilize the inexpensive independent brass front toward the bottom of the page for the Friday Night cars. Typically most guys opt for the heaviest version to keep the front end as planted as possible (I highlighted it in yellow below).

I'll look to do a little mini write up on our "Friday Night" cars in the coming days.
It is an inexpensive class to run and with the mods that are allowed - the competition typically is VERY close - making for some great racing and a lot of fun! :D

Hope that helps!
