Hi

It appears that we are heading towards racing with GT3 cars and therefore I would like to start the discussion around the list of eligible cars.

Here are a few comments - the cars will include GTE as well GT3 as the cars are essentially the same from the outside for e.g. Ferrari 488 owners can buy a kit to convert from the GT3 to the GTE car

Here are more details on the difference:

GTE allows for more modifications in comparison to the road car than GT3. For example, GT3 requires a bit more stock parts than GTE, which only uses the chassis, engine block and the cylinder headsand the gasket (I think it was gasket) from a road car.

Edit: had to check the rulebook; engine block and the cylinder heads are stock, but some minor modifications are allowed. Also, if direct injection is used, injectors have to be stock.

Both categories use traction control, but GT3 also has ABS.

GT3 does BoP much more heavily, making a Bentley able to compete with a Ferrari. You could also say GTE is more finely developed than GT3.

However, recently there has been a sort of a convergence between the categories which complicates the explanations. For example, Ferrari 488 GT3 customers can buy a kit to convert the car to GTE.

BMW was allowed a special waiver to use a modified GT3 car (as was the case with the Z4), but only in IMSA; it is not ACO-homologated.

Here is an article from 2012 that makes it as clear as....mud!

https://jalopnik.com/5949938/understand ... lass-guide :?

Dennis (Gascarnut) very kindly took the time to draw up this list, and I have taken the liberty to make a few adjustments. This includes the Area71 and Black Arrow cars. Ultimately I will make the final decision on what cars will be allowed, but I will be as fair as possible to your feedback and comments. As you can see there is a long and excellent choice of cars.

Looking forward to getting your input!

Chris

I also sent an email to Area71 and here is Marco's reply:

Hi Chris,
apologies for late reply.
thanks for getting in touch and thanks for your willing to approve our cars for your series.
Very interesting series
At the moment we have in production a total of 5 GTE/IMSA and 8 GT3 cars.
The GTE/IMSA are:
Aston Martin Vantage GTE
Corvette C7R
Ferrari 488 GTE
Ford GTLM
Porsche 991 RSR
The GT3 are:
Audi R8 LMS
Bentley Continental GT3
BMW M6 GT3
Cadillac ATS V GT3
Lamborghini Huracan GT3
McLaren M650S GT3
Nissan R35 GT3

1) Our cars can be bought directly from us and at some resellers. Alan sells mostly 1/24 F1s

2) The weight of our bodies (without cockpit) ranges from 10 to 13 gr. Ferrari and McLaren are around 10. Cockpits are between 3 and 5 for the bigger cars, but working on a universal 0.2mm acetate thermo formed cockpit

3) Our 3D printed cars are made with nylon that is lighter stronger and more flexible. The post processing we perform to our bodies gives the part a smooth surface that feels like plastic, but it is not plastic ;)

4) Yes it is possible to buy just the body without the chassis as we already have engineered a line of bodies to be used with third parties chassis, like metal ones, but haven't yet released them
4b) our bodies are designed to be used with our chassis that are compatible with slotit EVO6 or Scaleauto RT3 (RT4 compatible chassis are currently under development).

In the next days on our FB page we will be releasing the line of just bodies and pictures

If you have any further questions din’t hesitate to ask

Best regards

Please wait before you commit to a model until we have finalized the list of eligible cars - things can and will change.

Ooh you guys let the cat out the bag, as I've been eyeing the Caddy for a while and the Bentley weighs absolutely nothing at 16g. I e-mailed Marco last week also as I've always dreamed of a Caddy CTS V Wagon with a cam, full length headers, 4:10 gear and a 6 speed, a perfect family car. The wife has always said no.

What about the Carrera Aston Martin, I didn't see it listed?

It's a nice long list of available bodies, IMO, that will allow for a lot of variety on the grid, at least until the second season!

Personally, while I like the idea of a starting date of 2010 to eliminate the Mosler and one or two other cars that would dominate immediately, I don't see an issue with allowing GT2, GTE and GTLM cars to compete along with the GT3 cars. In slot car terms, the only thing we really worry about are the length width and general scale of the car, and in most cases these dimensions will be close enough that none of the cars will have a distinct advantage over others.

I understand Chris' motivation for eliminating cars like the Ford GTE, based on what happened in full scale, but my thinking is that if anyone can get that big-a$$ car to work as a slot car, then good luck to them! Similarly, the Black Arrow Aston Martin DBR9 and Lamborghini Gallardo are close enough in size and shape to newer versions like the Vantage and the Huracan that they could be used without any unfair advantage. This would open up the choices for people who may already have such cars in their stables.

If anyone is worried about a possible advantage or disadvantage for bodies from Area71, I compared four bodies last night. All are Corvette C7, from Area71, Carrera, ScaleAuto and NSR. Size-wise they are as close to identical as could be expected from four different manufacturers. The only real differences are in the height and position of the rear wings. I weighed them and the ScaleAuto came in lightest at 21 grams, followed by the NSR at 22, the Area71 at 23 grams, and the Carrera at 30 grams. Since my scale does not measure to decimals of a gram, the actual differences may be smaller. The Carrera is obviously quite a lot heavier than the others, but the extra toughness may be an advantage for a proxy series.

Anyway, whatever the final consensus is, this looks like it will be a really nice format to build on the successes of the GP5 series.

Take care all, and Happy Holidays.

Looking forward to the final approved list.

I have never competed before, but the concept of just making the field is challenge enough. I have both a Porsche and a Corvette that look like they will fit the bill. Will get started on building a chassis when the series rules become final.
