Hi Folks, I don't imagine that many use 14" (ish) wheels on a regular basis, so, I thought a list of what is available may be of some use.........as well, I have included a list of "rubber" tires that will fit these wheels. While there may be some that I have forgotten/not known about, this is, I think, a fairly comprehensive list.
Wheels.....
Stock Scaley F1 wheels.....if you are lucky enough to get some that run true, they are perfectly fine.
Slot-it
14.3 x 8........SIWI4308015A..(why do they need such a loooong part #)......front alu. wheels for the Alfa33/Ferrari312.....these make a good front wheel
14.4 x 11.5....SIWI4411515........a good choice for a rear wheel, come in both alu. and magnesium.
NSR
14.5 x 12......NSR 5005...these are their "air" system wheel, another good choice for a rear wheel. *****the set screw flange on these wheels is considerably more pronounced than on the other wheels mentioned here, so, with some chassis", (they do differ) it may be difficult to make the rear end width rule.
These wheels measure (with a typical "legal" aftermarket F1 rubber tire installed, and a minimum of outside tire bulge) 15.5mm from the outside of the tire bulge to the outside of the inner set screw flange........so.........while the tire/wheel package is certainly legal,....on any car with rear bushing uprights (you should measure to the outside of the bushing flanges) wider than 30.5 mm, you will not make the 61.5 rear track width. If you are close, you can take a few thou. off of the NSR set screw flange face. If not, another wheel will likely be what you will need
CB Design
14 x 8 ..........CBD0704......another good front wheel choice
14.x 12.........CBD0705......yet another good rear wheel
Sloting Plus
14.2 x 8........front wheel.....yet another good wheel, in fact they are all good, so I will stop with the recommendations here ;)
14.5 x 12.......rear wheel
Mitoos
14.4 12.........rear wheel
All of the above are quality wheels, and with properly glued/trued tires, all will perform equally well. I personally use the Slot-it/NSR wheels the most for the simple fact that I have quite a few pair of each.
Tires....Rear
The following are "rubber" tires that will fit all the rear wheels listed above with no issues. They all have a small id. which will grip the wheels well without slipping. That said. it is highly recommended that you glue and true all tires......most rubber tires are far from perfectly round.........particularly the NSR's.
Slot-it (F1)
F22... 20.4 x 12.....SIPT29
P5.....20.4 x 12......SIPT23
P3.....20.4 x 12......SIPT13
NSR (F1)
Super Grip.....20 x 13....NSR 5220
Ultra Grip.....20 x 13....NSR 5221
Extreme.......20 x 13....NSR 5307
Sloting Plus
20 x 12........SP032050
Mitoos
20 x 12........M007
Unfortunately, Slot-it do not make their "N" series tires in an appropriate size, so, of the available tires, my nod here goes to either the
Super Grip or Ultra Grip tires from NSR. While some others may perform well on any given track (particularly the Slot-it F22's), overall, the NSR's get the nod. This has been proven out over several proxy events over the years......by all means, if in doubt, try them all...... ;)
Tires....Front
I do not know of any "low grip/zero grip" tires that will fit the 14" wheels, so the clear choice here is the stock Scaley tires. They are relatively low grip, and glue and true easily. The pre 2016/17 Scaley F1 cars still had the narrow rib on the tires/wheels, so in some cases, the stock tires may not have a wide enough rib to fit on the above wheels. This is a bit of a pain, but, the rib widths on any tire can be widened to match the wheels, so if anyone needs help with this, just holler !!
I am sure I may have missed an option or two, but the above list should accommodate just about everyone.
Hope this helps
Cheers
