Cooper T55

Postby btaylor » Mon Jul 02, 2018 3:58 am

Finishing up another old Formula car. This one a cooper t55 in 1/24 scale. I used the same formula (no pun intended) for this one as the rest. Brass chassis, piranha motor, 9/27 gears , Slotting plus guide, 1/8 axles and H&R wheels, with urethane tires of my own. Cant stress enough how fun these are to build and race. If your club racing, try some of these old friction car bodies. enough detail to look good, tuff enough to take some serious racing.

I still can't find the boogers anywhere I have looked. So, I really look forward to these when you post them. Great job on all of them. I'd love to see a flock of these racing. I haven't seen 1/25th F-1 cars run since the old hobby shop track had races with the Cox cars. What a show that was on a Saturday morning after a half hour bus ride to get there! There were, regretably, some incidents of loose parts flying around when there was a crunch.

Thanks Guy's. Rob, one of the reasons I started building these, was from memories of the "old" guys running them at our hobby shop track back then. The cox cars are expensive, and choices for body styles are limited. I am not a fan of the lexan offerings in this scale, so I took matters into my own hands! these things are a hoot to build and race. I just started another Lotus 25. Most of these cars used a cox style driver head that can be re used as well. Check out the wheel inserts on this one. they pop out of the plastic wheels, and are a press fit in the H&R.

Thanks Harry. I am using full driver figures in these. the big size allows for some good cockpit detail.

Love these....very cool way to repurpose the inexpensive toy bodies. Zee did a few sports cars too, but the F1 cars are just cool.
