Lotus 24 finished.

Postby btaylor » Sun Jun 24, 2018 11:32 am

Just finished up another of my Pull back turned slot car rides. This one is a Marx 1/24 Lotus 24. Pretty good chassis detail on this one for a kids toy. I did the usual simple chassis in brass, with a Piranha motor, slotting plus guide, Slot it 27 tooth crown drilled for 1/8" axle. 9t pinion. tires are a mix of H&R fronts and my own rears. Color is ACE brand floro green, with clear over decals. I used a web picture of a real 24 that raced in this color and that number. Driver figure is resin cast by me

. I really lucked out on the period correct wheel inserts, as I was able to chuck the whole wheel from the pull back car in the dremel, and just spin them down till they were a press fit. Overall, this is one of my favorites so far. it handles great, and is plenty fast.

Thanks for the Kudos guy's! these cars are fun to build, and hold up very well under extreme racing conditions. The trade off in minute detail is worth it to me, as I have kids and newbies racing here most of the time. The Marx cars have a rubber type exhaust and mirrors, so crashing is not an issue. to say these can be bought cheap to build is an understatement. here is just one example currently available.
