These are the 1/24 car brands I have in my collection

Carrera as you know - good value - good range of modern and historic cars - run well - great detail - requires 18v to run. A tyre swap to urethanes (or silicone if you run them) makes a difference.

BRM - both metal and plastic chassis cars - I don't know a lot about the plastic chassis ones - I have 3 with a metal chassis - they run well without magnets don't need a lot of tuning and are a blast to drive - start at around $100 and go up - the new Trans Am cars are quite stunning. They have a nice range - small saloons, historic Ferrari and Porsche, Trans Am -

Metal chassis such as the already mentioned H&R chassis - plastic or resin kits - 12v

Scaleauto - metal chassis cars - quite mechanical with a lot of tuning options - modern GT cars they will be releasing Home set cars with a plastic chassis this year. 12v

Metal chassis cars out of europe (Scholer) and Japan (Plafit) - mainly raced with hard body plastic kits or mini Z (1:28 scale) bodies also some lexan bodies 12v

There are probably lots of others but those are the ones I have :)
