Figured I'd take the "modeling" portion of the Showdown seriously.
Can't do more modeling than starting with a blank sheet of styrene.
I got a roughed out 80's era Monte-Carlo ready for a skim coat of Bondo & a chassis.

Made some progress on the Monte-Carlo Sportsman,
Got the chassis mostly done, enough to do some track testing anyway.
(Shows some promise)
Got the body ready for a couple heavy coats of primer & final sanding for color.
The goal is a super-lightweight car.
Remains to be seen if it's STURDY enough for "Showdown" competition. :roll: :roll:

I dunno' Razor, I haven't cast anything 'cept tires for quite a while now, Most of my last builds have been one-offs.
I think my silicone has all dried up.
All you need is a sheet of styrene, sharp knife, scissors, super glue, files & sandpaper.
..............Oh yeah!....PATIENCE.

Finished up my 80's Monte-Carlo Showdown entry this afternoon.
Got a few things left to do & maybe make a couple of changes, but I'll declare it finished.
I built with weight conservation in mind.
Minimal, super light 3/64 brass rod chassis.
Super glued the driver to the motor & built the rest of the car around that.
Scratch built the body from .040 & .020 styrene sheet.
..........(After all, it is a modeling contest).............. :roll:
Based the dimensions on Harry's Buick casting.
I think it closely resembles an 80's era Monte-Carlo built as a "super sportsman".
I drilled holes everywhere I could to make up for the added weight from paint & decals. :lol:
Running a Piranha motor, Cox gears, Parma guide, Big Mama braid, Pro-Track wheels & Paul Guage Tires.
Stole a couple of number decals from an AMT 1/32 Nascar kit, the rest are home-brewed.
Used antique white Ace Hardware enamel over Ace Hardware white primer & acoat of Futur.
Added some candy purple & blue vinyl for accent. Driver figure is from Scalextric.
Hope it isn't too fragile to hold up against the other Showdown entries. :pray:

That looks really good! So what's the weight of the final product?

Love the look of this one! It looks like the late models that ran around here in the late 80's. They were pretty liberal with the bodies and allowed drag tires. There were a lot of wicked home brewed late models running at Flemington and East Windsor at the time.

So clever, ....more inspiration for me!! I don't know where to look next :D

Had to change a few things.....Didn't like the blue "skid pad", so it became orange. ;)
Also added some detail to the nose & tail.
(Sorry "bdsharp", don't know the weight, don't have a scale!! :oops: )
