I turn the tire inside out and use a small nail clipper. I force the excess inside between the "jaws" and snip!

did you remove the play in the rear axle?
i always do it with a small drop of CA glue near the bushings. turn by hand till it hardens. and keep turning till the axle is running totally free again. eliminates the last chatter normally.
It´s also way better to glue the rear tires to the rims, especially with soft aftermarket tires.

Yes, wheels can be drilled/tapped incorrectly. They could also be wobbly/bent.

The fix depends on you.

I have seen the wheel hubs filled with styrene rod, glued, sanded and then re-drilled.

Me? I simply order good wheels and keep the old in case I need them for inserts. Then again I race non-mag on wood. Anything not right will show itself FAST.

Sometimes check the front wheels. If the fronts are supporting the weight of the car, then they better be round. If not? More "hippy hops".

Then there is the axle itself. Could be bent.

Then there is the bushings. How do they fit the axle? Too much slop and you have that "hotdog in a hallway" effect. The axle bounces around inside the bushing causing...you guessed it, hippy hops.

Many variables cause this issue. All you can do is closely inspect your car and check for anything out of round and start working from there.

Bruce,

In addition to all the good tips mentioned, a very thin film of Gorilla glue on the hub will help secure the tire. Gorilla glue does expand when it dries so keep it thin. Gorilla glue is good for bonding most dissimilar materials. Works well on re-fastening plastic hubs to axles also. Hope this helps.

Bruce,

After reading this post a little further, I believe you could install brass bushings to help take out the "slop" in the rear axle. I think Lib/Ranch design stocks them and they don't cost much. Hope this helps also.

Yes, that is correct. Use some fine grit sandpaper and hold it against that inside edge and give it a round contour.

soldering wires directly to the braids offers a good point for breakage.
i like the SCX compact solution. The guide turns really free and doesn´t influence the sliding.
what i really don´t like are stiff motor wires, like they come originally on the DSlots. Really soft measuring cable are just right, everything else - too stiff IMO. But this only applies for NoMagnetRacing.
