Kleskun Hills- Cars Arriving

Postby BARC 1 » Fri Oct 13, 2017 6:17 pm

An overseas container arrived from Germany today. In it were Roland's entries to the 2017 Kleskun Hills Fun run

1970 Camaro with an exquisite etched Chassis.

Both cars were given a quick few laps to determine possible qualifying and race settings. More Chassis info to follow as we lead up to the race.

Nice Camaro!

Not that I'm worried but maybe starting to be a little because I shipped my cars three weeks ago and estimate delivery was 4-8 days...

Yes I was wondering about your cars. They will get here, and as long as they are enroute I won't run the race without them.

Let the show begin

One week only - wow. Maybe the reason is that I sent them via Express.

The DTM car is an experiment with a smaller motor, and since it works very well I will equip all my models with this motor - well a bit better one then, with even stronger magnets.
The motor is small enough to use it in any config, inline as well as side or angle.
And it enables me to compare all my different models with the same power basis, getting a real representative comparison. My aim isn´t faster and faster by higher voltage and more rpm.

The Camaro was my first resin car. It was made for a proxy, too, was almost too late and thus is not made very cleanly - a typical half a jiffy - build. Meanwhile I have patterns for the windows, too, and the next one will have them.
At the proxy the motor was too slow. So as a first attempt I changed the gear ratio this time. Let´s see.

The chassis - no Dave, it is neither laser cut nor photo etched, it is hand made from PCB. I generally spend a lot of time and expense with chassis building because I love it ( more than working on the bodies...).

Well, the pictures had been shown yet, but I like to show them again.
Hopefully they motivate someone to try scratchbuilding, too, instead of profane buying ;)

I don´t know whether you know this really successful and race - proven method to clean the tires -

stick two ca. 300 mm pieces of double - sided carpet tape on a piece of MDF or plywood or whatever and roll the cars´ rear wheels with soft pressure along the tape. I think it wouldn´t be advisable with sponge rubber, but any hard rubber or PU.

So, the Cuda will have a nice challenge ...

I use a roll of masking tape( sticky side) and just roll the tires over that a few times. Each car will have the tires cleaned this way before every run.

No challenge, Peter.
None of the two cars has been re - adjusted especially for a proxy or even a race. The Camaro still has the same motor as last time, only the gear ratio being a bit changed.
Both include parts that I want to be tested on other tracks, too. Gaining experiences...

They are the replacement for those which were intended to take part, but the bodies the new chassis have been made for aren´t here yet - Murphy´s law....

But it is the fun that lets take us part, isn´t it ?

Greetings,

Roland

great video, Dan!

btw, it´s Lancia Beta Turbo, not a Monte Carlo. did the same car, but with a different paint scheme. it´s a nice and light Heller body, i think.

i hope my cars can get out of custom confinement soon ...

Super video Dan. I think they look better in your pics than they really are. I went and looked at the kit box and Peter is right, on both counts.

Thank you
