Congratulations to Peter for hosting another great 143 proxy event. The 33 car field was impressive and the entries top notch.
I still plan on having the Kleskun Hills event in October, but I had nowhere near the entries that Peter received. This is understandable as it is a first event, and I also think that a lot of 143 scale stuff is happening in in Europe and the cost to ship cars individually to Canada could be prohibitive to some. I found the shipping rate to Europe are all over the place. To the UK and Finland the cost is less then $10. To Austria the cost is over $30. So depending on where you live the cost of shipping a car overseas could be hurdle.
Ideally if enough people were interested and we could get a couple of more events maybe we could start a series of races. For example after the ProNoMag, a lot of cars are being shipped to Lloyd for the UK slot car festival. All these cars can be shipped in the same box and it will reduce the cost of mailing substantially. IF we had a series of races then we could make use of this fact . ie. The ProNoMag becomes the first races of the year. The cars are then all packaged up and shipped together to the next event. This would keep the field of cars large, and because tracks are different, the outcome could be completely different.
Peter's race is highly successful and I don't want to mess with a good thing. However some more proxy racing would be fun so how do we go about building on this?
So my idea
I will be hosting a proxy race in October, and ideally I could team up with someone from Europe to run a race as a series with my Kleskun Hills Event. A track host steps forward and holds a proxy with the idea that all the cars will then be shipped to Kleskun Hills to run a second leg . This would reduce the shipping cost for everyone in Europe to participate in a race in North America.
Depending on what Peter wants to do I could even move the Kleskun Hills event to April or something, so that Peter could ship all the ProNoMag cars to me if that is something people might be interested in
Anyway I am just thinking out loud as to what we might be able to do to build proxy racing in 143. The 33 car field is encouraging and I am just throwing out some ideas for people to contemplate.
There is even the possibility at this time to say all the cars that are going to Lloyd for the UK slot festival could then be shipped to Kleskun Hills to participate in the fall event. Again if we can get all the cars amassed at one site in Europe, the cost of shipping the whole field together to North America is less then each car individually.
Is anyone else interested in trying to develop a proxy series, where your cars get to race on more then one track?
Cheers
Dan
