I would like to know if anyone can tell me the difference between 1:43 scale and 1:64. I'd like to know the difference in dimensions and whether or not a 1:43 would run on a 1:64 scale track for a short distance.

1:64 or HO or the size of hot wheels cars

1:43 are little bit bigger about 4" -4"1/2 long & no 1:43 can't run on HO track unless you do a few mods & won't be able to run more then 1 car at the time but it not worth it
In another hand HO (1:64) run great on 1/43 track if you add a slid guide to the cars...

1/43rd will be to big for a H0 track.
The main difference in the track are the rails. 1/43 uses wide, flat rails like 1/32 and 1/24, H0 rails are narrow and a little raised above the track.
running H0 cars on 1/43rd track works great, did that with Tomy SRT Ford GT40s on my Artin track.

in 1/43 there is right now only one manufacturer, Carrera with the Go! system and D143 for digital.
Go! offer a great selection of track pieces and you can build nearly every car from scratch if you like that. The number of new ready to run slotcars is limited right now in 1/43rd. No idea about H0, so, but i think there are more cars, but they are more expensive as well.

Thanks for the replies guys. The reason I asked is I am trying to put a car, train intersection into my layout and the only one I can find is ok for the train, but the car part is 1:64. I may buy it anyway and see if I can alter it to allow the car to pass through. Thanks again.

Most "HO" cars are smaller than 1/64th scale. I have a MaxTrax which is billed as 1/64th scale, it is considerably wider than regular HO track and you can run 1/43rd cars on that if you fuss with the braids. There is another hitch with running 1/43rd cars on a HO track and vise versa. 1/24th, 1/32nd and 1/43rd tracks all have the positive rail on the right looking in the direction of travel, while HO tracks have it on the left. In addition HO tracks are usually run at 18-24 volts, while the other scales are in the 12-14 volt range for the most part.
