1) I hate clay. I don't like cleaning it, and if you run a sharp metal object near the body you just spent hours polishing, the last thing you want to do is scratch it accidentally while sculpting it. But, if you like it, go for it.
2) I would NEVER remove the body from the original mold. See #1 above - if you clay, you can actually pull the body out if not careful. Why is this bad? You lose the natural suction the Silicone has to the original part and now when you put it back in you run the risk of silicone running between the part and the 1st part of the mold. That creates all sorts of problems.
3) I never spray my silicone mold release until I'm doing the inner plug. Why? Back to the hours you spent polishing - some mold releases sprayed on will dull the finish, introduce particles, etc. On the inside of the mold, not a big deal but I don't want orange peel all over the casting.
4) After doing this a few times, I honestly can't remember mixing anything by weight. It is all done by eye. If you've not done it - I HIGHLY recommend mixing by actual weight or you get weird reactions like molds that setup too fast or slow and molds that break down way too fast.
