My Slot.It Porsche 911 GT1 98 LeMans winner

Postby Modlerbob » Fri Nov 09, 2012 3:22 pm

This project is almost finished. The most difficult part was applying the decals. Fortunately Pattos has cured the brittle waterslide decal issue as these were thin and very flexible. The kit came with the openings in the fenders for the extra lights used at Le Mans. The lenses were easy to place as they were molded as part of the main headlight lenses. Assembly sequence is critical up front but not a problem if you dry fit everything first. The body was a milky semi-translucent white and instead of painting the outside surface I decided to paint it white from the inside using R/C lexan paint as it is resistant to oil and lighter fluid.

The Pattos decal sheet was missing one IBM logo but I found a suitable substitute in my scrap decal bin. I still need to paint the mirrors and it will be complete.

Here are some images including a couple of side by side shots with the Fly model.

I ran the Porsche for a while this evening at DeBary Glen raceway and after some adjustment of the gear mesh it started turning some fast laps in the same range as my Ferrari F40s and McLaren F1GTRs. I think after some more laps and additional fine tuning it will be one of my top Slot.It cars. BTW for those interested the white kit body fully assembled, painted and decalled weighed in at 19gm and the whole car right at 80gm.

I'm considering putting it on E-Bay just to see if the collector fanatics are interested in getting this livery at least 6 months before Slot.It releases it. I'd start it at say $120.

Well, it's on E-bay and currently at $77.00. If it goes at that, at least I barely cover my costs.
