Limited Carrera Ferrari D50

Postby goosenapper » Tue Nov 06, 2012 4:34 pm

This has been on the "coming soon" list for a while, but this is the first that I've seen a price on it.

Fantasy World Hobbies has it listed as a preorder for $139.99.

editorial time: I figured that this was going to be steep, but a buck forty is just outrageous for a Carrera. If you want a Ferrari D50 in a metal case, Cartrix makes one that you can get shipped from the UK for about half of that. Apples to oranges perhaps, but that's the route that I'll now be going.

Very disappointing. I had hoped this kind of shenanigans would be beneath Carerra.

The digital version at this dealer is 97.00, a little cheaper, but still a hefty price. It does include a controller.

Last years digital limited edition Audi R8, that I bought from this same dealer was around $55.00. But it did
not include a controller or special case.
If you don't need digital, pulling out and selling the chip and controller to get the price down.

Retail for this is supposed to be in the area of $140. They are limited to about 1999 pcs. My guess is that 475ish will make it to the USA. I've seen prices from $100-$140.

I would have loved to see it in a regular release...but that isn't the case. It is a collectible with a collectible price tag.

I buy cars to race and enjoy on the the track, not a shelf. It is just one car that I can live without. Just like many other special releases like this that have come and gone over the years.

So, it doesn't bother me what the price is...I never planned on getting it. Maybe down the road I'll get one, but it would be just another piece of man-cave eye candy and I am running out of room anyway :)

With Carrera keeping the lowest price in our hobby on the rest of the regular releases, I won't be too hard on them.

I would hope that eventually it will be released in analog form in a standard case at a more reasonable price. The D50 is a classic that I would probably get if it were at a more reasonable price.

I hope they release a non collector version with a driver.

That cracked me up.

bibbster wrote:Sorry, Bob. The mold for this one will be destroyed according to Carrera, so there won't be any more.
And this is just silly. (Carrera's action, not bibbster's comment) What a way to guarantee missing out on sales. Of course, if they did eventually release this in a their standard line, then there would be the cries for running mates and the beginnings of a new series, which I assume they want to avoid as this stand-alone model is merely an effort to cash-in on the Ferrari exclusivity deal.

Speaking directly to the price of this, there are many releases of various makes in more limited numbers by other manufactures (some better quality, some less) that go for less than this. I was very excited to see this particular one when it was first announced, and would have certainly jumped on it if it fell in the $70-$80 dollar range. (which is well above what I would normally pay for any Carrera) If it's not out of line to ask, what did others who had anticipated this release expect it to retail for?

As stated in my previous post, I went ahead and bought a Cartrix Ferrari D50 from topslotsntrains in the UK minutes after seeing the retail on this Carrera.

Maybe Carrera is banking on this being a big seller in their European market.
