NSR Ford GT40 MkII #6 1966 Le Mans 24 Hrs

Postby Austin » Sat Sep 28, 2013 12:48 pm

Picked this NSR 1080 Ford GT40 MkII #6 1966 Le Mans 24 Hrs from cloverleaf racing, was looking to buy it from SCC but none in stock.

Ford GT40 comes in sidewinder setup. The motor is Shark 20k which has 20000 rpm @ 12 Volts 164 gr/cm.
All 4 of the rims are aluminum with soft compound tires

Ok we need to get some lap time right out of the case, 150 lap should do it.

The car has lots of power but I can't keep the rear of the car planted to the track. All 4 tires seam to be way out of round. The wheels inserts look real nice, I had 2 offs during the test laps. I had to coast around the turns and wait till the car hit the straight before getting on it again.

Time to take it apart,
I could see to lube anywhere on the car!

Time to true them tires and add some lube for a retest

Using the Professor Motor power supply and a Huby tire turner I trued all four tires .

Tires before and after truing

Then using the Lube sold by SCC I lubed both axles, gears, & motor

Ops 1 lap over the 150 mark. Easy to see the car handles a lot better. Rear it still loose in the turns.

I will try a little weight on the pod next

I had to cut out the plastic holders for the magnet so the weight would set nice and low. I started with a large weigh just ti see if there were any improvements. I will cut in in two for the next test.

Faster but still doesn't handle all the well,

Cut the weight in half and lets try once more.

Rear of the car slides nice, But did flip over on the far end of the track.

Now stacking the two halves

Much easier to drive
