Scalextric Demolition Derby,Crash,Boom,Bam

Postby ourwayband » Fri Sep 27, 2013 8:55 am

This is one set that I have had interest in since it was announced in the spring.I understand we all have cars we would rather not wreck. In my experience though some of the most fun we had racing these jewels is wrecking your buddy.Do we want to destroy his car, well not really, or do we?
Thought I would give you a quick rundown on the set.
Image
The set arrived packaged well and with decent instructions.
The cars come disassembled ,so you get to start having fun right away.
Image
They seem to fit together well and can be made into a convertible,or coup type car.Not tons of detail, but to my eyes they fit the part.
Image
You also receive peal and stick decals. The body parts seem tuff and will hopefully stand up to some abuse. These are comparable to Legos so the modifications could be limitless.
Image
Track is a extended figure eight .

One problem that we had with the set was the power section.
Image
Scalextric seems to have eliminated the port for two power plugs.Though this set has plenty of power for it's size,if one decides to extend the track and wants separate power for each lane you will have to buy a different unit. There also no borders or guard rails included with the track.
The cars are heavy and come with Scalextric's bar magnet. They stick well to the track and can get up good speed.Yes they will come off if you go full out,but they run well, better than we expected.
Now for the fun part.
Image
Crashes are a hoot.Parts do fly,buy not all at one time We've had several wrecks were only a couple parts fly off. Then you'll have one where you loose half your car. They seem to fit back together well and are made of a very tuff material.

What do we think about the set? Well This 53 years old kid likes it.I hope this will bring more folks into the hobby.Maybe Junior will get one for Christmas and start a life long hobby. We've got some buddies coming over tonight and they will get their chance at destruction.
This time they don't have to worry about tearing up the cars. :D

Rusty - thanks for showing the cars broken down...the Lego connection is GENIUS. Every kid I know has them. They can now make their own cars to crash - and let's face it, without the track tie-in, that's what they do anyway.

Glad to hear it is fun!

Nice review, I think it's a great idea from Scalextric.

I had one of these in the early 1980s and loved it
Image

It was only the hood that came off, but the idea and the way it was done was excellent. I hope Scalextric have lots of success with this new set

Hey Thanks guys!Glad you enjoyed it.The Lego tie in is what will make this set.
choc-ice ,man that is a cool set.Looks like I'll be looking for a couple more cars. Thanks for sharing.
We ran these hard Friday night, very hard.Cars launched off the pool table, parts flew. All seems to have weathered the storm. One thing I did notice, everyone wanted to try this set out.Even spouses that had never even looked at my slots were giggling and having fun.The only trouble I had was finding all of the parts the next morning :D

Okay... the cars don't look as weird as the original announcement made them appear. This review makes me change my mind:

I give my Seal Of Approval to the new Scalextric set and you all may purchase freely now.

I knew you would all be very relieved to learn that.

ALSO...

That Super Stox set is the bomb. Like the cars in that one, too.
