TGIF! Busy Busy

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Aug 23, 2013 8:50 am

What a week. Finished a couple project cars and looks like I will start 2 more. :)

RMS Resin Cougar in a style it was NOT made for...and in 1/25th I'll start hacking on the Late Model Truck.

Cleaning up the old Skunkworks as racers/visitors arrive next week. Usually I have a project car that I just get the clear coat on when they pull up in the driveway...have to figure out what last minute model I need to do :)

Lot's of new cars arriving from Scalextric, Slot.it in the last couple weeks. My poor slot budget can't keep up!

And it will get even better. In the next couple of months you will see a LOT more of course as our "regular season" begins.

The summer is always a little slow. It happens every year and it will happen again.

Our hobby is in pretty good shape and it is just getting better. Sure, there are a few companies that are no longer with us...or producing less. It happens. But don't be quick to lay blame. Most of it lies directly on the shoulders of the companies themselves, not "the hobby". If you produce items that don't work, are overpriced, or that no one seems to really want? In time the end result is not hard to understand. There is more competition out there than ever before and you have to bring something extra to the table to keep some of us happy.

Thankfully we have companies today that are doing well because they do.

My own collection grew this summer thanks to these leaders. 2 new Carrera Cobras, 3 Slot.it's, New Racer Group 5's and even a Scalextric Camaro. Not to mention a few older models that I wanted for projects. That is a good handful of cars for almost any summer. And there are plenty that I passed on. NSR, LMM, NINCO all trickled out new cars and there are a couple more from Carrera and Scalextric I am still wanting  Not to mention the ones I am forgetting. 15 years ago I could literally keep up with everything we had available. At least on this side of the pond. I have product "catalogs" that are nothing more than a 2 page leaflet from back then. Today there is no way I could. I try...but new toys come faster than I can type it seems :)

You also notice PROJECTS. Time for more customs and trying new tuning. And look at the layouts that are being built. In our little forum alone I noticed more than a handful of new tracks as well as older ones getting a facelift.

So you might as well sit back and get ready for the mayhem as fall slowly arrives. New model releases will increase and your head (and wallet) will be spinning. At least mine will!

Now..back to cleaning this place. Hope all have a great weekend.

Great over view there Harry of the hobby in general.

It always seems to go in cycles.

Like you I am cleaning up the slot car room also.

Just finishing putting a coat of paint down on the floor to make things nice and hospitable when I have my club of racers over.

It has been a busy week and I was able to squeeze in those couple of builds I posted also.

The weekend will be busy as usual as my girls have started school back this week and along with it comes their activities they are involved in also.

These are definitely good times in the hobby and in our personal lives!

Enjoy!

Yeah, but we aren't talking about Bibbster's cars!

Come to think of it, Kurt and I are in that club, I shouldn't be talking! Of course, Kurt goes and puts his on HRW because he has no shame. I hide mine under the bed with the other monsters.

I've been busier than a cat trying to cover poop on a tin roof. Far too many projects going on. I need to just pick one at a time, but most of us know how that goes. I did finish the Lambo I was modifying. I'm still working on Project: Wonder van, I just need to work on it some more. Now I've got to get some cars ready for HRW HQ. It's hard trying to figure out what to take. :)

Just came back from Wright Patterson AFB last night. Had a great trip with the LT. and even got to witness him receiving his first NCO salute. He presented his coin to a very surprised Sgt. He was very touched that Chris presented it to him. I will say it is very weird being escorted everywhere by a son in uniform and seeing people salute him.

We spent Wednesday putting together his "apartment in a box" - otherwise known as IKEA furniture. Awesome stuff for the price and the design and functionality really surprised me. They even provided cool tools for the parts that needed it. The bachelor pad is officially online.

We did spend about 6 hours at the Air Force Museum yesterday before I flew home. WOW!!! That is an amazing place I HIGHLY recommend folks visit.

Plan on spending some time in the dungeon this weekend getting re-aquainted with some little cars!

Wright-Patterson is a treasure all right. The last time I went there they had just finished the new building with the tail of the B-36 sticking out. I was there with a guy whose father flew them. Great stories about the early tests of that monster. And my favorite, the big beautiful PB-Y Catalina was a huge treat. The first time my family took me there, there were acres of WWII planes tied down on the apron just waiting for people to climb all over. I don't think they ever stopped building since. I love that place.

My middle son had 3 roller hockey exhibition games Friday evening - this season he is playing goalie - he was very pleased that his team won all 3 games.

I am still working on the yard - got to lay some more paving stones today.

Mark, what kind of floor do they play on? I remember being introduced to hockey as the new kid in town, being fresh from the Gulf coast of Mississippi living in Ontario, Canada, and that ice was HARD! They made me play goalie because I had never skated. It was my motivation to learn to skate as fast as I could. Not a lot of padding in those days, and the goalie was the only one with any kind of headgear. I can't believe we did that.

It's plastic I think - lot's of interlocking squares to make up the rink. They ban any liquid from the surface as it makes the rink completely slick- zero traction.
He plays here - http://www.silvercreeksportsplex.com/partners/hockey/
He is one of the yellow/blue players on the bench in the picture at the top.

There still isn't a lot of padding, knees, elbows, gloves and helmets are mandatory for his league - As I have witnessed a few times there is a definite need for cups... Lot's of "funny" stories about that as you might imagine. We also get a number of collision injuries.

In his goalie outfit he is pretty much armored against any strike, but he suffers from the heat more.

Actually, that looks like a lot of fun. Yeah, the stories were half the fun. I never was good enough to play on the school teams, but they flooded and froze the tennis courts at the neighborhood school and we played our hearts out. By the time we were all 14 or so, there were relatively few boys who had all their teeth. And... Gordie Howe was a demigod, Bobby Hull was the fighter, and Maurice Richard was the up and coming star for Montreal. Old, old, old... Tell the boy to keep his stick on the ice for me.
