As promised in another post, here is a slideshow of 19 pics from my weekend in Montreal. Pics were taken with an iPad Mini
It was a 12 hour race using the new Racer Capri's. Each team had to paint the car using the team color as the main color. I was on the yellow team (of course :D), and as you can see in the pics, the local guys did a great job of painting them up (keep in mind they knew the cars would be raced for 12 hours). The teams were set up based on driving abilities of those participating. Each team had 4 drivers. The cars were mainly stock, with only the motor pod and the rear tires being changed. The motor pod was changed to a stiffer Slot.It pod, and the tires were NSR Ultra rubber tires. As there was concern if the tires would last 12 hours, each team was given 2 sets to use for the race.
For the first portion of the race, the racing was very close (check out the pic that was 13 minutes into the race). But as the day went on, the yellow team built a pretty good lead, and did win overall. The race for 2nd was much closer, with about 10 or 15 laps separating them. The 4th place team had some difficulties, but in any given heat, they were fast.
As for how the NSR Ultras lasted, the yellow team did run the entire race on one set, and they were still hooking up pretty good at the end. In the last 90 minute heat, our last driver was still able to make a fast lap within a 10th of the fastest lap of the day. It was good to learn that the NSR Ultras do have the ability to provide good grip, and to last for a long time as well.
At the end of the day, the 4 cars were raffled off, and 4 guys went home with some very good running cars. I wasn't one of those lucky guys...
