Some models that missed their time?

Beginning a new project here in the old skunkworks and it occurred to me that some of the older models may have missed their time.

This Carrera Vette is a good example of what I mean.


Back when this and other models like it from Carrera were first released, we didn't have NEAR the amount of after-market toys we have today.
So if it broke or you wanted to tune it for wood/non-magnet...you had a time on your hands. Sadly, these models came and went with little fanfare.

But today it really is a new hobby :)

I have this car ready for some SCC Limited Gold steel wheels, bushings, axles...and my favorite classic motor, the M/T-1. I have to decide what size tire to use along with what brand, plus a new guide I want to try and plenty of decals to choose from.

Almost makes me wonder if some of these models should be brought back? I wonder how they would be greeted? Think of some of these cars with simple SCCA type race decos in your club/home today.

And not just Carrera either. This is just an example.

What do you think? What model do you think missed it's "prime" ? One that could benefit from all we have to offer today?

Ya some of those classic Carreras are nice but they aren't necessarily easy to upgrade because some of them have dinky toy gears and oddball rear axle bushings. That makes them hard to put standard parts in if you are trying to make improvements. It can be done but it can take some surgery to do it. Slot.it makes a bushing for the classic Carreras if you are of the feint of heart when it comes to attacking her with a dremel, knife and file. That helps but then you come up against the lack of space for a decent size gear. I have done some Carreras including one of those Vettes and the GT350 Mustangs, Hemi Cuda and D type Jag. They can run quite nicely when done.

That vette was the first car I "Tuned" and it was unbeatable till I burnt the motor, I replaced it with a PM motor and it was slow, so I guess its time to go your route Harry

Along the same line as the Vette..

The Carrera Mustang and Camaro they produced back then

If these older cars had the current motor and gear ratio, they would have been really fun cars back then.. :dance:

Dave Reineke and I (well, mostly Dave!) tried to tune a Carerra Camaro by lowering and swapping out the stock wheels for some Scalely mini lites and actually got it to run almost as well as an out of the box Scaley T/A car (almost).....
