I can't understand why every manufacturer that uses these motors in 1/32 cars choose the high rpm models. Most of these cars are smaller than those with FC130 motors and really shouldn't be rocket ships. I know there are lower rpm replacement motors available but that is not my point. I just got a Scaley Ford escort Mk 1 and the motor is so fast it nearly spins the stock tires off the hubs. The same motor is also used in the Cortina and MGB. I have the option of turning the voltage down to about 8v when running these cars but not everyone has that luxury. The same is true with the R/M Ferraris and MRRC Porsche 910 as well as others.

Because they are not building models for you and me. Simply trying to make the fastest model they can using the heavy magnets they install. If you ask for an answer, you will get the usual "That is what most of our customers want".

Enthusiasts like us are a small part of the hobby. Since you cannot please everyone in regards to motors, they pick the cheapest and fastest little motor China has to offer and into the car it goes. It is hard to blame them. People are never happy regardless what motor they install. If they put in a more realistic or slower motor, then the speed demons would complain. The collector could care less as it sits on a shelf.

I see people change out motors in every brand of car. From NSR to Artin. Nothing is ever "right". I am guilty of it. I tune the models so they are fun for me. My personal taste dictates what motor/gearing/tires...etc I use.

With so much diversity in taste, you would never put in the perfect motor.

The problem with me is that none of my controllers is equipped with a choke to reduce the top voltage. Up to now for fifty years I have resisted paying more than $100 for a controller. I have a pair of PM 1/32 basic controllers and a pair of Difalco $250 controllers that I bought used for less than $100 each and I use basically for 1/24th scale racing at a local commercial track. I have been shopping for a higher end 1/32 controller from either PM or Slot.It which would push my upper limit on price to around $150. I guess I should check whether either of those two has a choke. I won't be buying a third eye unless someone is willing to sell one for much less than retail.

Harry is totally right (Again. Darn!). One has to remember that these are produced for another market. The majority of cars boxed cars will be purchased by collectors and sit on the shelf.

The funny thing is, the section of the market who run their cars crazy fast and tune by piling in more magnets will also want to swap out the motor on these cars. So to the manufacturer the important thing is simply a cheap motor that fits.

To me the biggest problem is less the original motor choice and mote the price of replacement motors.

A choke can be something as simple as wire wrapped on a Coke can. Those shown above are more sophisticated.

While a choke'd controller is a great tool, Mark's M/T motors are a PERFECT change on these. Fabulous little cars when re-motored to what they should be out of the box.
