The diodes are the cheapest and standard ones ; ref 1N4007. I bought a lot of 100 pcs on Ebay for 1,5 $ postage included.

For the GoldCap condenser, yes, it's & 5,5v one ; but as I put it after the 470 ohms resistor, there is no trouble, it gets around 3v.

I'll try to find a diagram somewhere.

I would be interested to see the circuit.

"You can also have permanent light on SCX cars just by adding a diode, a condenser and a little wire..."

Circuit diagram, please.

For the SCX permanent lights :

The condenser is soldered to the chassis strips to storage power, the diode avoids the power to go back to the motor and the wire leads the power to the lights.
Here, a 15v mini condenser is needed to storage the power coming from the track.
1000 mf gives enough capacity to avoid bleeding and have a little permanent light even car stopped.

For the general schematics :

This one uses a voltage régulator ; that's not the one I use.

I remove the voltage régulator, replace the 6koms resistor by a 470ohms and put the 5.5v GoldCap AFTER the resistor.
So the current sent to the GoldCap is reduced to around 3v.

Great job !

What is the resistor value you are using, front & rear ?

So if I simply wire some LEDs together without any diodes or caps - just a resistor will I have a problem if I run the car in reverse ie when giving the tyres a quick true?

Also do I need 2 wires to each LED so that there are 8 wires coming back to the motor for 4 lights

I have a diagram somewhere but photos are easier :)

Hi DM,

no issues with reverse voltage on the LED. The LED will not light as it is blocking the current flow.
