12 hour race in Montreal, QC

Postby nhdungeonracer » Sat Sep 07, 2019 9:57 am

Our friend Pascal invited Steve, Bob and I to race in a 12 hour race in Montreal, and we are "representing" TeaM USA. There is also Team Quebec, Team Laval and Team Montreal. The racing started about 9:30 this morning. Here's the track...

We're racing Revoslot Porsches that each team had to assemble (the cars were disassembled) in 4 hours on Friday evening.

So far the racing is close, and Team Montreal is showing the way...

Good luck. How are the lane and driver rotations being done?

As a kid to create my own version of Le Mans I decided to do a 6 hour enduro on my own. My favorite car was a Cox Ford GT40 so I fittingly used that. I only had a 50 lap mechanical lap counter that was triggered by the guide flag as it passed so I had to stop every 50 laps to put a mark in my notebook and record the time. I'd estimated how many 50 lap intervals I could do in 6 hours and that was my target. What I hadn't counted on was how hot my Strombecker controller would get and I had to run upstairs during a break and get ice water to soak my hand it every 50 laps. I surpassed my target with 20 minutes to go and cruised to victory, much like my heroes in Le Mans.

We are nearing the 1/2 point at this time. Montreal, despite breaking a wing off, is holding onto the lead.

Slothead, heats are 24 minutes long. With 4 teams on a 3 lane track, that means there is always a team sitting out, in which case they become mandatory marshalls. The way the schedule is designed, each member of each team must drive all 3 lanes twice.

Sounds like a great time. Looks like Bob is confused how that controller works though.

Thank you Pascal for organizing and hosting this event - a LOT of fun! It was great to race (and hang out) with our friends from Montreal and Quebec City. Looking forward to doing this again next year.
