132 Strombecker RS 60

Postby BARC 1 » Mon Mar 25, 2019 8:47 am

This car shell was purchased from WilliamG along with the Cheetah. The shell was in good shape except at some time in its life it looks like somebody went a little crazy gluing on parts that didn't belong with some type of glue not for use with styrene. With an exacto knife I was able to remove the parts and scrape off the glue. The whole car was wet sanded to smooth the finish and remove the heavy mold lines that have existed for 50 years.

This car had a Navigator, which I didn't want, so I removed him and filled the depression left with Resin. Using Molotow Chrome from a Spray can, the car was painted to represent German Silver. Not a very convincing Chrome, but the resulting Silver was what I wanted. I had learned this about this paint when I was spraying chassis with it and discovered it was really silver not Chrome. Decals were from my collection of home printed BARC # 20 roundals, and the Porsche emblems were from a sheet I purchased years ago.

Another scratchbuilt inline Brass chassis with a Piranha for Power. I scrounged up some American Mag wheels from my parts box which had narrow tires.

This is one more old Strombecker shell that will begin a new life 50+ years after it was released.

Great job on the Porsche. I have one of these that I did years ago. I won't bother to post it since it's not nearly as nice as yours. You really brought the ol' girl to life!
