I actually do own this. I bought it because my wife doesn't understand why I like slot cars, but she does like NASA and anything related to space. I figured I could try to use a gimmick to get here interested. It didn't work.

I can't imagine in what context one would run this car, but it does look pretty cool in person. There's a nifty NASA mission emblem where the Roadrunner usually goes on the wing.

On a side note, I can't believe that Carrera would bother to create the moulds necessary to make the boosters that are on the rear of this car since it was a limited release. That's dedication to the bizarre right there!

Funny, we raced that car yesterday :)

I remember that release. I like CarreraClub guys, they are creative to say the least.

I remember that thing. I remember the confusion on HRW when it appeared. It was a period when a lot of bizarro cars came out of Europe, at least one of which was a Pinkcar so distasteful that nobody talks about it to this day. The famous (and kinda cool), Santa Claus Mercedes, strange, wheeled thingies from Scalextric, Sport track came along right about then, and Ninco track strangely went from a little rougher than everybody else to something like a plastic version of a bastard cut file.

I really think there's enough data to support a thorough history of how things developed in slot cars from roughly 1997 to the present. Its really an amazing story. There's more than enough info right here on HRW for a rough starting layout, and we have the people to interview as contributors with info and stories. If you went with big color plate photography, it could become a reference book that is really valued for lots of folks. Of course, its cheaper and easier to publish as an electronic book, but it wouldn't have the appeal of a big, coffee table sized book with lots of photos and stories.
