Hello Everyone. I'm brand to slot car racing and this forum also. Please let me know if I'm posting in the wrong place or doing something else wrong. I bought a Carrera Power Speeders race set 132. I put it together and had a lot of fun. Then I decided to enlarge it. I used some track designing software and came up with, well I'll try to attach a picture of it. The 3/30 high bank curve (6 pieces) is at one end of the layout. It came with a bunch of supports of various sizes. What's the right way to set this curve up? I did what I could, but.... Any advice would be appreciated by me, the slot car moron.

You are doing OK, make sure you install some guardrails to protect your walls and your cars from roughly desloting onto them! ;)
Maybee, you should get one X (part # 20517) or a single or dual lane changer (part # 30343, 30345 or 30347) and install it 2 straight lenghts before your banked curves and it would equal the competition.

Good luck using the Carrera banked curves. I've tried them in 2-6 lanes setups and never been happy with them. A lot of trouble to put them together in multiple lane designs and making smooth solid transitions is pretty hard. I used a table saw and cut triangular pieces of wood to gradually lift the straights to the curves and around the curves. With a glue gun you can set up the wood supports at any height needed. Take two triangular pieces and glue them together to give you the angle you want for your track. You can position them to make any angle you want.

I quit using banked turns and now just mount the flat curves to a thin piece of p;lywwod or fiber board and lift the outside edge to give a slight rise and still realistic curve.

I would like to see Carrera make curves with about half the banking. I am not holding my breath, as I also would like to see plastic straight tracks 3 to 6 foot long!!!

I have been using the bank curves for just over 2 years and for sure they are not equal as the flat ones but they sure give us a lot of speed going around them; I can tell you for sure that the under part of the front spoiler of most of my 132 cars have some wear ! ;)
I actually use a set of 6 of them banked parts splited by one full straight and that 7' banked curve is at one end of a long 16' straight and it gives us the fun or chance to go full trottle and come out of it to the long back strech. The remaining of my layout is flat and needs carefull driving including a inside portion of a road circuit.

It looks good to me, I have a 4 lane track with 3-4 high banked track and love the banks, the cars shoot through them like straights I would suggest you go ahead and get the skid aprons for the out side

One suggestion about the aprons Razor Jon mentioned. Once you clip everything together, there is enough play in the tolerances that the aprons end up uneven with the track surface. I used PVC cement and glued the aprons to the track...using the red clips as support while the glue dried. This makes for a much more study banking.

Thank You all for the comments and suggestions. I'll put up some guard rails so the cars don't end up like a squashed bug on the wall. With such a steep bank, I would have thought that Carrera would have made a straight or two that was slightly twisted to bring the track down to the floor. It seems to work ok using regular straights, but I had to prop those up a bit. I guess the tracks just bend into place before and after the curve. I may try making my own supports using wooden dowels. It would be inexpensive and if I find the perfect bank angle, I can cut them to size. I'm not sure how I'll get them to stay in place. (except for the six pieces that make up the banked curve - they have a round hollow thing to stick the supports in.) Thanks again.
