I bought a Javelin from SCC the first week they were released, but with the heat off in the barn didn't get to race it till this week. It's a great looking addition to my Trans Am series joining two RMS resin Javelins on Scalextric chassis.

An initial time trial session on Shelby-Hendrix Speedway (technical mdf road course) with other untuned cars (except aftermarket tires) showed it needs new tires too. The track has cooper tape for power so magnets have no effect, all traction comes from tires and chassis setup. While most of the cars have PG tires, a few still race on stock tires and do well. I'd hoped for better from the new wheels and tires on the Javelin but on this track the tires did not perform as well as other Scalextric and Pioneer cars with stock tires. Of course that could also be due to the Javelin being the only inline chassis car among them. The only other inline chassis car in the series is the #42 SCX 'Cuda with PG tires.

Results so far (average lap time over 5 laps):
1st - #15 Pioneer Camaro (Mark Donohue) at 9.7 sec (PG tires)
2nd - #16 Scalextric Mustang (George Follmer) at 9.9 sec (PG tires)
4th - #41 Scalextric Cougar (Allan Moffat) at 10.02 sec (PG tires)
6th - #2 Pioneer Mustang (Dan Gurney) at 10.08 sec (stock tires)
8th - #42 SCX 'Cuda (Swede Savage) at 10.16 sec (PG tires)
10th -#6 Scalextric Javelin at 10.26 sec (stock tires)

Sidewinders out perform inline on my track, and PG tires out perform stock or silicone tires. Most of my Trans Am cars are Scalextric, but the Pioneer cars seem to have a slight advantage. I've ordered PG tires for the new Javelin and expect it to be a decent mid-pack performer with them.
