I saw a very interesting thing posted recently, it was a system for simulating camera flashes as a car passed a grandstand. Some of the figures in the grandstand would be holding LEDs, there is a sensor near the track that tells the control unit that a car is passing and that triggers random camera flashes. A similar thing could be done with the onboard sound. If there were sensors around the track the reciever in the car would know where it was located and play the appropriate sound. With a less sophisticated system the sound would be triggered by changes in the voltage that the motor sees. By using sensors a more realistic sound could be achieved.
