Ford-Ferrari Wars Proxy - Round #1 The River Run

We ran the quali for Round #1 today. Bob Bianchi from Slot Car Corner came down to do the honors; thanks Bob!

Bob ran each car for 10-15 laps to get used to it and to get the controller dialed in, then 10 laps for fastest lap. There were a total of 23 cars in the quali; with 2 more expected for the race on Sunday. Here are the results in ascending order:

[Note: Car numbering for this round. We allowed duplicate numbers for this proxy in order to help encourage participation. However, when it comes to actually running a race, it's a lot easier to keep track of the car based on a number on the outside, rather than on a name that you have to keep cross-referencing. So, in cases where we had duplicate or, triplicate or, in one case, quadruplicate numbers, we morphed he numbers slightly in order to make the race easier to tally. Here's how that broke out for this round.

#9 - slotting since 1963 - raced as #9
#9 - aloha - raced as #19
#9 - retro racer 44 - when Keith's car arrives, it will race as #191
#11 - urbanwarrior - raced as #11
#11 - arroldn - raced as #111
#24 - audi1 - raced as #24
#24 - audi1 - raced as #124
#24 - chrisguyw - raced as #241
#24 - Pappy - raced as #242
#33 - brumosRSR - raced as #33
#33 - orakeiracer - raced as #133

The racing numbers have been written in Sharpie marker on the bottom of the chassis of each car with duplicate or greater numbers. Other hosts may plan to use a different system to differentiate duplicate number cars, but this is the system that we use here at The River Run.]

Retro racer 44's cars will be with us in time for the race, but they weren't available for the quali today.

We hope they will be anyway. If Canada Customs and Post had moved them here faster, they might have been there already. As it is they are in the air en route from Vancouver as we speak.

The reason they are not still with Allan, is that the Ferrari had a problem with the spur dragging and I needed to put new tires on it. The GT 40 was an experimental design that just didn't work, and weighed 40g more than some of the other cars. Since one was coming back, both did. The GT now has a new chassis under it more like the 312's.

If they get there by Sunday, they can start from the pit. If not, they will be DNS for the first round and be ready to go for the second. I didn't have time to track test them in their revised state, so they still may be dogs.

It's all for fun anyway.

Hi Dennis, The car that raced as #124 is a Slot.It Ford GT-40. The car that raced as #24 is a Scaley Ferrari 330/P4 riding on a Slot.It GT-40 chassis.

I agree, it would help if the numbers stayed the same throughout the series. I will include a sheet in the car transport box that details the cars and their "as raced" numbers, to help facilitate that at each of the host tracks.

Me, too. RIght now, I think, Chris is on urethanes and you, Steve (relynr), and Scott (jscot111) are on rubber. I can't remember what John (urbanwarrior) and Richard (slottingsince63) are running. Those are the top 5 qualifying cars.

My track likes silicone and rubber, urethane is always the challenge, regardless of what's been run before that. The track will get a good cleaning and tack cloth buff before the race on Sunday.

..............sorry, but I've already turned the slugs loose on the track; it's going to have different grip properties when they're done with it - no doubt! Did I mention........they have little "U"s on their T-shirts......not sure what that stands for, but I'll bet it's not "R"ubber................ ;)

Oh what a complicated world we live in ... actually will be interesting to see how it plays out. Chris I am with you on Urethane...Smokieo remember I still want lessons on trueing or should I say "massaging" those rubber tires you do...
