Team Slot Renault Alpine A310 Gr.5 - re-chassied

Postby VTECFOUR » Mon Apr 15, 2019 5:24 pm

This is my last project in the west coast before returning east for the summer.

This Team Slot Renault Alpine A310 kit has been sitting too long. Always intended to re-chassis so I've got a built adjust-o-wheelbase slimline motored one sitting in the wings waiting for a drivetrain. Quite looking forward to this one.

Got the chassis rolling with Slot It plastic 15 x 8 rims/Team Slot tires at the front and Mitoos F1 wheels/homemade urethanes at the rear.

Image

Mocked the body on with the front valence/spoiler attached. As hoped there's enough front clearance so trimming of the spoiler will not be necessary.

Stance is good.

Added .032" brass sidepans and got the chassis powered.

Image

Mounted chassis at three points, front and both sides. Fast epoxied 1/8" round styrene posts with push-in brass 2-56 screw inserts to the body.

Image

Chassis pans spaced.030" from the body so the front and rear wheel/tires clear the body.

Final stance works for me.

Will likely trim pans to the contours of the body sill bottoms.

Working out well.

Cut down the kit's Gotti wheel inserts.

Was thinking spoked inserts but this look's just fine.

Sidepans trimmed for body clearance just in case I lower the chassis. Think I could do it with lower profile tires, but we'll leave it for now.

Particularly like the aggressive front look with the big air dam and massive rear quarter wheel arches.

Image

Reminds me of the 67 BRE Hino Samurai's rear flanks. That would be a neat slot car.

Paint and decaling completed. Sprayed on some Tamiya TS-47 Chrome Yellow over light gray primer and applied DMC Camel and assorted other decals.

Kit's interior tray didn't require any trimming to fit, so just a driver figure installation and we're done.

Performance and scale modeling turned out well.

Another nice one. What are the specs on the slimcans you are using?

@ BARC 1 - motor's a Scalextric Sport FF050 25,000 rpm green can one. Not sure of the torque specs.

Done! Installed the kit's driver figure and attached the minuscule photo-etched rear wing support cables.

Really pleased with the outcome.

Not quite done. Missing a mirror or two :D

Thanks for the info on the motor. How well do these do when up against 21.5 K 130s?

@ BARC 1 - Lot more missing parts as they were not provided in the kit. Apart from the side mirrors, a headlight lens and both windshield wipers were not in the packaging. Oh well, not a deal breaker.

The slimline motors have the rpm but not much torque. Braking are not their strong points but that suits my driving style with little braking adjusted on my controller settings.
