What's the brass tube on the pan beam for?

@ Kevan - the brass tube is a solution to a mistake. Wanted just the piano wire but managed to solder both ends to the carriers and THEN discovered I was way off on the length. Almost impossible to remove the piano wire from the end carriers without de-soldering the components (square tubing soldered in U channel) so why not cut and shorten the wire ends then sleeve the two with an adjoining tube. It worked.

Got the wheel inserts in place and painted. The fronts are resin copies of my clubmate's 3D printed ones for 15" rims. The rear were reduced in diameter to fit Slot It F1 rims.

Went for more rear tire (diameter, width and sidewall aspect) than my Coupe by fitting urethane copies of the Fly March GP rear tires. My favorite rear tire set up for a lot of cars I've built.

Pretty much done with coats of Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red. Going for the decal-less look to match my Coupe.

Driver figure should be hunkered down more, but this'll do for now.

Onto the next build.

The driver figure was bugging me. Got it hunkered down with some trimming and then glued to the motor.

That's better.

Now we're done.

Track test feedback

Postby SuperSlab » Sun Mar 10, 2019 5:21 pm

Dan is too modest to say anything so I will chime in:

Dan ran the car at our weekly racing on Friday and it was great! It looked great, it was hush quiet, very smooth and very quick. It just looked wonderful out on the track. An absolute winner Dan!

Very nice, Dan! Might I suggest wheels and inserts from Dart Hobbies or the like? I think they really finished my 612 Can Am off quite nicely.

Ooh, that 612's a beauty! Looks like the old BWA inserts in the BWA rims.

Did the final modeling touch, exhaust pipes.

Image

Made them from 3/32" brass tubing soldered together and painted. Slips nicely onto 1/16" piano wire that's inserted into the 3/32" square main rails.

Done!
