SRC Matra 670B - re-chassis

Postby VTECFOUR » Tue Sep 25, 2018 5:44 pm

While waiting for my Riley & Scott WSC body paint to dry, hopped onto another build, re-chassising a SRC Matra 670B body with my standard adjust-o-wheel base hybrid.

Unfortunately, this chassis format with the no longer available Devised Designs (DD) super slimline motor pod will be ending with only three left in my parts bin.

I've worked out an alternative motor pod to continue using slimline FF050 motors in builds, but will miss the DD pod. My small and low slung builds with these have performed very well.

Love those Matras!
What are you going to do for a driver? Pescalaro or Hill? Wheel inserts?

(Don’t forget that Nerf’s own Brian has his own 3D printed 050 pods in varying offsets that might work for you.)

Car's done with chassis running.

Equipped with:

- Scalextric Sport 25K green slimline motor
- Slot It 9t pinion and 28T crown gears
- Slot It 14 x 8 plastic rims/ home made urethane tires
- resin copies of Slot It Matra 670B front wheel inserts
- Mitoos F1 rims/home made urethane tires
- Sloting Plus Universal 7mm guide
- Parma oilite bushings

Runs fine on my wood track with a fastest lap of 5.582 seconds. That beats out my Slot It Alfa 33 at 5.647 but is behind my fastest Classic, a Slot It Matra 670B at 5.490.

A really good outcome, performance and modelling-wise.

Nice to have a body already done to to lessen the build time. For me it takes longer to do the modelling than building the chassis. I've got lots of cars (Fly, Scalextric, Ninco, etc.) that could be re-chassied, so this could take some time.

Moving forward.
