Chassis assembled and running.

Powered by a Slot It slim can with a 3:1 gear ratio (10t SCX Pro pinion, 30t Plafit crown). Had to trim the crown's boss to fit. Motor mount is offset and the crown wasn't specified as such but the gear mesh seems fine.

Runs smooth but it won't keep up with Slot Its.

Mounted the body with a single rear post with the front hinged from the axle.

Got the raked stance I was shooting for.

Tires are slightly rubbing so body and tire sanding should take care of that.

Had these model truck wheels from a friend to make a mold. This "commercial" look could work so I cast them.

Image

With a bit of filing and sanding for the fronts and rears, this came out.

Image

I like the rears, not so sure about the fronts. Maybe with the axle coming through more will help the look.

Considering this motor. Originally thought to be a Ford 427 SOHC but the spark plug positions in the valve covers are wrong.

Lots of room in the engine compartment.

Made some carb intake pipes from 3/32 aluminum tube. Drilled with a counter sunk bit to simulate a bell-shaped opening. Slipped on nicely and will position them more perpendicular on final assembly.

Image

The motor's going to pop visually with some paint detail.

Working out well.

Got some gray paint on the wheel inserts.

Image

Detailing the bolt heads in silver or gold will really make the wheels stand out.

Body's going to be painted a copper color with the motor in blue and silver.

Lots of progress!

Very cool Dan. Looking forward to the final scheme, but the meat and potatoes portion of the program is always the most intriguing part.

Replaced the front axle with a longer one so now the ends protrude further out to replicate centre caps.

I like the look.

That Hot Wheels looks like the "Lil Coffin" 32 sedan, definitely more radical than my effort.

Got some progress on modeling details.

Made some headlamp buckets from an airplane kit bomb and covered with a piece of .030" styrene hole punched. Positioned them low and attached with 1/16" brass tube through the rad cover.

Image

Motor's paint detailed with a distributor made from 3/32" aluminum tube stuffed with wire stripped from a twist tie to resemble ignition wires.

Image

Mocked it in place and the look is good.

Headers for the motor are next.

Turning out well.
