Revell Monogram Lola T70 Spyder conversion

Was tempted by the new Thunder Slot Lola T70 Spyder but had the Revell Monogram version already. So, a chassis update was in order.

I usually build my go-to adjust-o-wheelbase chassis (square brass mail rails) but thought I should be getting more comfortable building piano wire/brass ones for better performance.

As advised by Chris W, chassis builder extraordinaire, main rails and front axle uprights are .055" wire. The brass guide tongue was fabricated from .064 x 3/4" brass strip. Brass U-shaped channel, .75" x .75" x .125", was drilled out to fit a Scalextric Sport 25K slimline motor and Parma 3/32" axle oilites.

Had to make lots of corrections to get the chassis "flat and square" as emphasized by Chris.

Shooting for this low stance.

Chassis side pans next and then assembly.

Getting there.

Got .064" thick pans attached with .032" piano wire as hinges. Gear ratio's at 3:1 with a 8t pinion and 24t crown gear. Wheel's are Slot It 15 x 8 with Ford GT40 tires at the front and my favorite rear wheel\tire set up, Slot It F1/Fly March 761 F1. Guide is a Sloting Plus Universal Round Keel, 7mm deep.

Gave it a run and feels good. Body mounting's next so that'll be the real test.

Body's mounted.

Tried to save as much of the interior tray and driver figure.

Mounted Slot It Ford GT40 six-spoke wheel inserts with knock offs.

Swapped the SCX Pro 24t crown gear with a Scale Auto 26t improving acceleration and braking.

Really good outcome from a performance and modeling standpoint.

Beautiful build Dan, hard to find faults with any revogram body, sweet as they come for the ticket price.
They definatly aren't as nimble as the higher priced cars, but building a fun solid runner is worth the loss . I built this same car with a brass rod chassis in angle winder configuration . It is a lot of fun and very enjoyable to drive.

Hi Mark,

Yeah, can't beat the modeling detail of the departed Revograms. I've got more (Lola, McLaren, March, Trabant) to convert now that I'm getting comfortable building wire and brass chassis.

This Spyder's a heavy weight at 99 grams but the body's modeling detail is worth the extra grams to me.

I'm sure it's not as fast as the new Thunder Slot version but it's very driveable and feels solid on the track.

More conversions to come.

That is really sharp, nice work, I like those 761 rears too. I'm working on a Revson and a Gurney in 24,
Love it!
