Finally found some time to build some slot cars. First out of the Gate is a McLaren M1B Can Am car. Chassis is Brass plate and Lego with a Dual can motor set up giving me space for a full interior. Car is resin casting, and I think the decals are from Pattos. Found them in my decal drawer.

Dual can motor setup?

The Dual Can or Twincan was used to help boost the torque from the small can motors I use on these cars. If you remember the Porsche 911 I sent into the Brass am, it had a single can motor.

On my small home track this set up is ideal, and produces a very balanced car to drive. These motors only turn 16K at 12 volts, and when run at 10 volts there are really anemic, and as a result the proxy car Porsche 97 I have running in the TransAm is battling to stay out of last place. Twining the motors has increased the acceleration, but unfortunately the 16K is still 16 K so the top end is not there for proxy racing.

Again though with my home track and straight limited to 11 feet, I get lap times that are almost equal to Cars with 21K 130 can motors.

The chassis is a gift card with a brass plate. Axle blocks are Lego. The rear blocks have 3/32 bearings, and the result is a free rolling chassis.

Interesting. And tune it so it works for you, that's all that matters. Well done.

Yep. That's a unique version of dual motoring. Its surprisingly easy to do a dual inline motor successfully, and these early CanAm cars are perfect for it. I did a Mercedes 196 with dual NSR motors (much more crowded than a CanAm), set up counter rotating with independent rear drives for the Land Speed Record at Bruce's place in Cincinnati years ago. I think I came in third, but that was a long time ago, and I was close to passing out the entire time... heat, guys, heat! Cincy is the capital of the finest pork, over 100% humidity, and insane levels of summer heat. There was no beer at the meet. Good thing.
