46 Chevy Cruiser

Postby ShotgunDave » Sat Jan 28, 2017 3:32 pm

Decided to do this little project while I was waiting on parts for others. The T-Birds car club is represented here on the So-Cal Speeday, so it was logical that they should have a cool car to cruise in. Keeping with the 50's-60's theme of our track, I chose this 46 Chevy Sedan.

The body is one that TuscoTodd re-popped and sent me a copy of. It's a very nice casting and didn't require too much effort to get ready. I've gotten paint and clear on it and I'm now working on the chrome.

One of our lovely track beauties seems to approve. As does Danny, the leader of the T-Birds. He's even got his camera out.

The chassis is a real simple affair for this car. As it probably won't see a whole lot of track time, I didn't want to invest a lot in it. So I had this Carrera Mustang chassis sitting here, so I used it. I sectioned it and stretched it to fit the Chevy. Then I narrowed the axles so the wheels would sit in the right spot. I used Carrera T-Bird wheels on the front because I like the period looking hubcaps with the wide whites. I left the Mustang wheels on the rear just because you'll never see them under the skirts. The guide holder was broken in the chassis, so I cut it out and used a resin copy of the B-Nova that I made. I also put a Slotting Plus guide in it. That's really all that's been done to the chassis. The tires are my own urethane copies of the stock Carrera tires.

We'll see if I can't finish it up this weekend.

Looking good, Dave! Looks like it's just about ready to race at Thunder Road (for "pinks"). Oh, don't forget the club plate dangling under the back bumper!

Thanks guys. Just a little fun project to pass the time.

Jeff, I have to admit, that's not foil. I bought this sheet on eBay that has a bunch of different thickness' of chrome stripes on it. I just peel them off and apply them to the car. They work great for door moulding and such.
