HSRR McLaren 8D - hybrid chassied

Postby VTECFOUR » Tue Oct 25, 2016 4:45 pm

Always liked the modelling effort by HSRR before Slot It's version but never ran well. Disassembled one for a good look and determined one of my hybrid chassis using Devised Designs components will work for an update.

Cut up the clamshell chassis keeping the front valence and side pods to make room for the chassis.

Body's mounted for a good stance.

Next up is trying to save as much of the original detailed interior tray and driver figure.

Very kOoL...

HSRR built a beautiful car, even going so far to add rivet details on the bottom of the monocoque...

Another great piece of work Dan...

Curious on the performance, so I cannabalized a FF050 motor from a Revell Monogram Porsche 904 and geared it 3:1 with a Dart Hobbies 8t pinion and SCX Pro 24t crown.

Other parts used include,

Rear wheels\tires - BRM 14 x 8 Nascar/PG 22165
Front wheels/tires - MB Slot 13 x 5/MB Slot hard tires
Guide - Sloting Plus Universal 7mm

Whoa! What a nice running car. Not as fast as my Lola T160 builds but does Slot It sub 6 second laps. Driveability's so good at 81g that I'll skip my usual brass side pans. Will do a half interior driver tray/figure to keep additional weight down.

Pleasant surprise.

Hi Dan, another great job!!!...on a gorgeous looking car.
Why not try a Slot-it sidewinder pod??.......the full interior will fit, and you won't be disappointed in the performance.

Cheers

Hi Chris. Yeah, a sidewinder set up would be better. That would mean a piano wire chassis. Baby steps.

In the meantime, carved out the sidepods just in case I add side pans.

Image

Finished the modeling. Only used rear bulkhead from the original interior tray. Driver figure was cut in half to clear motor. Intake manifold separated from interior tray and glued in.

Image

Wheel inserts from the original pressed-on aluminum wheels are too small a diameter for the rims used. Maybe the Slot It ones will work better.

Pretty much done.
