Cheetah build 2

Postby VTECFOUR » Fri Jun 17, 2016 11:30 am

Started on a second Cheetah beginning with a cast from my original Strombecker-bodied car.

Body's just mocked but final stance will be close.

Chassis's my usual small car one using the Devised Designs super slim line motor pod.

Will go with:

Motor - Scalextric FF050 20k red can
Pinion/crown gears - SCX Pro 9t/SCX Pro 27t
Wheels/tires - rear (Slot It F1/homemade March F1 urethanes), front (Slot It 15 x 8 plastic/Slot It low profile)
Wheel inserts - front (Slot It Ford GT40), rear (Slot It Ford GT40 turned down)
Axles - rear (SCX Pro), front (3/32 piano wire)

Curious how it'll run compared to Cheetah 1's different chassis.

Image

Stay tuned.

Looking good Dan. Are you putting side pans on this one?

Cheers,

Body's mounted and pans installed.

Side voids to be filled with exhaust pipe detail.

Subjective running feels more planted than Cheetah build 1.

Got the side pipes fabricated and soldered to the chassis side pans.

Just need the right diameter solder to insert into the 1/8" tube end to simulate small exhaust pipes.

More modeling progress. Installed GT40 wheel inserts with the rears filed down to fit the F1 rims.

Drilled, filed and sanded out window, motor manifold and grille areas. The rear window portion left was necessary as it's the body mounting post base. Works OK for me. Will just paint it black.

Getting there.

Fitted solder to simulate header detail for the side exhaust pipes.

Got the desired effect.

Interior tray to be fitted on top of motor.

Image

Windscreens trimmed and intake manifold, tailights and driver figure paint detailed.

Image

Spraying Tamiya TS Metallic Forest Green for body color.

Getting closer.

Pretty much done except windows.

Has that Aston Martin Lemans color so I'll think about a yellow or red accent surround on the nose intake.

Good result.

Got the windows in (my least favorite build task) and gave the nose opening a yellow accent.
