My usual adjustable wheelbase chassis for small car's rolling and running...

Image

Image

...built with:

- Devised Designs Super Slim FF050 motor pod held in with 2mm screws
- perimeter chassis of 3/32" and 1/16" square brass tube and .062" brass strips, 1/8" square for front axle holder, and 1/8" tube for guide holder
- Scale Auto universal guide
- Slot It tinned braid and silicone guide wire
- SCX Fiat Abarth Campagnolo plastic rims and tires for the front and inserts from turned down rims
- Slot It F1 rims for the rear with trued down Fly March F1 urethane re-pops
- Scalextric FF050 20K red motor
- Slot It 9t pinion for 1.5mm shafts
- SCX Pro 27t crown

Chassis runs well but will feel more planted with .062 side pans soldered on.

Body's just mock fitted but am shooting for this stance when mounting posts are in place.

Very simple and very tidy, well done.
Should be a great runner too.

These small car builds are greatly facilitated with ready made motor pods that eliminate fussing with motor and axle shaft squareness and level planes. The Devised Designs Super Slim pod works well for me as the BWA motor bracket is no longer available. Their front axle/guide stamped carrier is missed as well. Those plumber chassis by Florida Slotter, Chrisguyw and DRW21 are so gorgeous that I'm encouraged to give it a try.

In the meantime, good progress on my simple chassis with side pans and side exhaust detail soldered in.

Image

Body's mounted too but I might try to lower it at the rear so there's reduced gap between the body and pipes.

On to the body work with paint and detailing.

I did manage to drop the rear with rear mounting post trimming and wheel arch filing.

Image

The gaps between the side exhaust pipes and the body have been closed.

Might seem a bit anal, but it would have bugged me.

Time for some primer.

Still deciding on final color, so primer`s on hold.

Image

In the meantime, gave it a serious run on Luf`s Targa Burnaby, a good test for any car.

As hoped, it goes as good as the Coupe getting into the 7`s easily. That`ll keep up with the stock Slot It cars, my goal for these little car builds. Added a 9g strip of .064 lead for a total weight of 81g. Car`s now more planted and driveable at the limit.

Back to modelling. What color?

Tamiya Fine White primer's on.

Going with a yellow/green finish after seeing a Racer Silverline treatment of a Toyota 2000 GT. Will leave the brass side pipes alone and paint detail the wheels in gold.

This build's final color choice has been particularly wishy washy for me so I've finally settled on red using Tamiya's TS8 Italian Red spray. I'm starting with their pink primer as they suggest for a red final coat.

Image

Never used it before so I'm curious to see how the red tone will come out compared to light grey primer.

Pretty much done. The Tamiya Italian Red spray covered really well on top of the pink primer. It's much brighter than the pics show.

After paint, the rest came pretty quickly.
- applied assorted decals
- Installed driver figure and fairing headrest
- paint detailed body and wheels

I particularly like the exhaust side pipes, so I give thanks to the fella who gave me the idea in the first place, Marty Stanley, RIP.

That came out looking very nice! I agree, the pipes really set if off; particularly with the neat and simple decaling.
