Toyota S800 Spyder build

The hardtop build turned out well, so a fictitious Spyder version is next.

Cut off the hardtop...

...and fitted a .040 sheet styrene piece.

Going to do a fairing too like on my Porsche 356.

Glad I made a mold of the fairing during the 356's build about ten months ago.

Image

Poured this along with a Cheetah body. Popped out an hour later saving a pile of time fabricating and shaping a new one out of styrene and epoxy.

Thanks to Luf for letting me use his vacu-forming machine back then.

Majority sanding done and fairing mock fitted.

Low profile works for me.

Paint scheme will be either all red with gold rims or white with blue on top from hood to trunk lid with grey rims.

Heck, if I make a mold, I can have a fleet in all different colors!

Putting the master away and moving forward on the first casted pop.

This'll save some modelling effort as I cast in headlamp covers and recessed the grille more for easier opening and better detail.

Turned out well.

Glued in the fairing, opened up the hard cover and mocked in the driver figure.

Working out for the long, streamlined look compared to the coupe.

It looks so awesome, I would love to have a casting of coupe and spyder if you sell them!

Adjustable wheelbase chassis work begins.

Cut, filed, sanded and cleaned brass to accept a Devised Designs Super Slim FF050 motor pod.

Likely soldering tonight.

Looks great! Nice job on that flaired spyder body. How much do your resin castings weigh, on average, for a car like this?

I've got the Spyder and Coupe bodies coming in around 9g. I try to slosh cast with just enough resin as I don't particularly like grinding any excessive stuff.
