Postby asmith » Thu Jun 06, 2019 10:20 pm

Published in Honolulu newspaper as part of a daily series of old photos. I actually missed the paper version but went to the digital version when today’s letters to editor included a thank you from Gregg Hutchings - publisher of Slot Car Magazine.

Sorry if this is old news.

Five lanes, routed or plastic track, anyone know?

It looks like routed to me. I believe Slot Car magazine is MIA.

Somebody made 3 lane plastic track back then. Could this be a 3 lane plus a 2 lane?

The rails are so perfect I'd almost guess plastic- but the curve complex in lower right foreground (and 5 lanes!) sure screams routed. Great picture by the way.

Never heard of any 3 lane and 2 lane track that would fit together. Strom made a 1/32 3 lane, and Scales the great 1/24, I've never heard of any way to make 5 lanes with plastic.

Maybe sectional routed track made from 1/2 inch particle board? (there was no MDF in those days).
