Revell owner Quantum acquires Carrera

A bit off topic, but since 1/43 was brought up - imagine that scale growing if Slot It produced a car equivalent to it’s 1/32 offerings.

I'm a bit confused here, I thought Professor Motors bought out Revell and Monogram to produce their slot cars. Did I have brain gas and missed something?

I think Quantum owns Revell Germany which is comprised of plastic model kits. They may also own all of Revell. Either way, the last I heard is that Revell sold off all of the slot car assets a few years ago.

You will see FULL line of Pioneer Legends released in custom HRW color schemes long before you see anymore Monogram NASCARS. They (Revell/Monogram) killed the slot car line and PM buried it.

DK is correct.

Revell still 'owns' all the slot car tooling but PM has exclusive use of them on a very long term basis. However........

PM will need to thoroughly inspect all of the tooling and produce an economic feasibility study. Some of it may be useless or beyond economic repair because of atmospheric conditions. The longer it is stored in China in the humid climate, the worse it will get. This applies even if the cavity faces are sprayed with damp repelling 'gunk'. Unless all of the tooling was painstakingly protected for a long hibernation, there will be issues both on the molding faces, the bolster sets and all of the pins and ejectors. I've seen it all.

Big news!

Carrera 1/24 sets drew me back into the hobby. I have three 1/24 sets now, and this news has thinking I should hang on to them.

We were talking about this at our 6 hour D124 race this past weekend. To us, Carrera back bone is their 1/24 scale track. Would they really cancel their 1/24th cars but still keep the 1/24th scale track? That seems silly to me. IF that were to be the case, it would seem that using another brand 1/32 track would make more sense. Hopefully this will not be the case!

After Dragon-I Toys purchased Artin Toys HK (a 1/43 slot set manufacturer for 4+ decades) 10 years ago, they retooled for the mass market 1/43 homesets for a cost of near$300k. That was where the market made sense for them after their acquisition of the 1/43 and analogue/digital 1/32 product lines.
