Pioneer Legends Progress

Saw this on the FB page.

Image

Data as reported by Jules:
Wheelbase (axle centre to axle centre) is 65.00mm.
Track width is variable.
Current set-up is 50mm from centre of left wheels to centre of right wheels with a current measurement of 60mm from outside edge of tyre to outside edge of tyre.
Because the arches are well clear of the tyres you could go much wider. Standard wheels track set-up will probably be 62mm, outside tyre to outside tyre.

No idea on any timeline.

5/8 scale ? That would mean a full size car 16 feet long would be reproduced as a 10 foot car? Yamaha engines? What HP? This sounds like April Fool to me!

The Legend series cars are legit and a lot of fun to watch!
They are truly a 5/8 scale representations of full size vintage racing cars.

Here is a link to general info on them:

I didn't understand that it was the "legends" cars that have a race series. I thought it was some kind of new design.

Harry, I know the Legends cars are real as several tracks in my area run them and in fact Southside Speedway in Richmond, Virginia had a national qualifying race two weeks ago. My question is that when the legends started out in the North East they had a very similar class called "Dwarf Cars" which looked very similar to legends but they did not run fenders. It seems to me that these cars also ran motorcycle engines with hand clutches. What ever happened to this class? I believe that the first legends were built by the sons of Racing Legend Donnie Allison as were the Allison Legacy cars which were third scale cup cars.

What the....Razoo ?

It isn't easy to make slot cars in todays iTool world - and given that Pioneer has had some ups and down with getting them made I think it is a credit to Jules and the team that they are still plugging away. It probably would have been easier to close up shop and sit on a beach eating fish and chips.... I am pleased that they have stuck with it and I am really looking forward to picking up a couple of legends racers - I think they will be great. As a club we are keen to run a new class with them.

I'd like to see these too. Though they were supposed to be out in 2011. These oughta be a blast once they make it to the shelves.

These models have probably set a record for a slot car gestation term. Back in 2012, these were ‘announced’. This has probably contributed somewhat to the general boredom indicated by Razoo (who did indicate he was interested back in 2012!). Hang on Razoo, whoever you are, I can see some daylight.

I have sent a couple images of the new bodies just out of the molds to Harry. Maybe he can post them up (I have not yet arranged any alternative image hosting since Photobucket got silly last month).

Incidentally, here’s a racing factoid for you:
More Legends Series Cars exist than any other type of racing car machine. Well over 5000 have been built since the series started.

Yesterday I had a great day out watching them racing at Snetterton Race Circuit in eastern England. They were the best fun to watch – really close racing.
2nd best on the timetable were the racing truck rigs. Astonishing 14litre, 1000bhp beasts – so loud and ground rumbling they were setting off car alarms in the parking area behind me.
